During the time when a cutting tool was some form of stone, volcanic glass (obsidian) was the most prized of all the materials available. Landon Selby, the expert craftsman who has made our obsidian knives for years, uses the same materials and the same techniques to create all the models we offer.

William Henry Kestral with Typhoon Damascus & Mammoth Bone

First fossilized Mammoth Ivory and then Mammoth Tooth became very desirable for knife handles. Over the past few years, we have seen a few handmade knifemakers use Mammoth Bone. This material varies widely in its appearance because bone starts out very absorbent and easily picks up color from the minerals in the soil where it has laid for thousands of years. Unlike ivory, which will usually have color on the surface (bark), Mammoth Bone will have absorbed the color through the entire thickness.

Browning Mastersmith Collection Jerry Fisk Skinner

Jerry Fisk is one of the most highly recognized bladesmiths making knives today. His knives have received so many awards that it would take much of this page to list them all. As a boy, Jerry watched in awe as a neighboring blacksmith created knife blades at his forge. A sixth grade field trip to the old James Black shop in Washington, Arkansas seems to have assured Jerry's path in life.

Browning John Fitch Drop Point Hunter

The Browning "Mastersmith Series" is remarkably successful, thanks in large part to the very desirable limits of only 500 of each knife. This means that there are never quite enough to go around to the dedicated collector/users of Browning products. "Big" John Fitch's large drop point is the third release in this series. The Bradshaw folder and Keeslar Hunter were released earlier this year.

Browning Master Smith Collection

Hen & Rooster Model 107

This knife began life as the seventh serial numbered Knife Collectors Club™ knife, the CM-7. There were 3,000 made with rosewood handles, all serial numbered. We then made 1,000 in India stag, African Blackwood, Coral Rucarta™, Black Rucarta™, Ivory Rucarta™ and only 2 knives in Mother-of-Pearl. The last time one of the two Mother-of-Pearl knives changed hands was about 15 years ago. It sold for almost $2,000.

Case & Sons Cutlery pays tribute to the "Man in Black".

Canal Street Cutlery® Drop Point Hunter with Peened Leather

A peen is the end of the head of a hammer that is opposite the face and is used for bending, shaping, or cutting the material struck. It is often used to fix, or flatten, the pins that hold the bolsters in place. A natural part of that process is to lay a piece of leather over the knife to protect the bolster as the pin is peened. Canal Street has taken their idea for this unusual knife handle from that process.

Canal Street Cutlery® Half Moon Pie Trapper

Canal Street Cutlery® took their Moon Pie Trapper, removed the long spey blade and made it a Half Moon Pie Trapper.
