This is the 10th folder we have created honoring the Texas Rangers. This year's design began as a Classic Folding Hunter, a design from the late 1800s with a swell center front and a swelled head. It was a slip joint folding hunter, made by Schrade, Camillus, Case, Queen and many other makers. All those knives measured about 5-1/4" closed with one or two blades measuring from 3-3/4" to 4" in length. I have changed that oversized pocket stuffing knife to a handsome pocket sized folder of the same shape, measuring 4-1⁄2" closed with a single 3-7⁄8" blade that is wider than the original. That means that there is more blade in a smaller handle and we managed to fit in the locking bar to make it a lockback. We have put our unique long pull nail mark on both sides of the blade, making it possible to open the knife one handed, with either hand. The liners, bolsters and caps are stainless steel. The Texas Ranger Star inlay is nickel silver and the handle covers are black G-10. A brown leather thong provides purchase for pocket carry position and easy removal from the pocket or belt pouch. Of course, the ability to open and close a knife of this kind with either hand was unknown in George's day. Made in China.

A.G. Russell Knives

From the age of nine I made homemade knives until I was about twenty-four when I began to make handmade knives, crude but no longer made at home. A few years later, I had met and learned from makers like R.W. Loveless and R. L. Dozier. I made knives until the mid 1970s. I don’t make handmade knives anymore, as my hands aren’t what they used to be. However, I do have very talented makers in the United States and Japan who make knives that I am proud to put my name on. I design pocketknives, one hand knives, lockbacks, and fixed blade knives and have them made to our standards. ~A.G. Russell III
