This knife is an updated version of traditional Japanese frictional folders. The traditional knives had no locking mechanism. There was no backspring. An extension of the blade made opening the blade very easy and, even without any of the locking mechanisms we are familiar with today, it was still a very safe knife. When you gripped the handle as you used it, your hand covered the blade extension and kept it from closing until you released it.

While retaining the functionality of the traditional Higo style folders, this Japanese maker has added two very distinctly modern elements. One very visual and the other very functional. He has added a locking mechanism – a liner style lock - and has used current technology to create a very current styling. The gorgeous cocobolo handles are “carved" using CNC, to create a sculpted shape that is not only beautiful but enhances the grip. While not made in Seki, the traditional knifemaking capital of Japan, you will find the high level of craftsmanship you can count on from a Japanese made knife. Each knife has a 3-1/8" modified drop point utility blade of AUS-8 at 57-58 Rc. or a laminated steel with an AUS-8 core and seventeen layers of damascus on each side. The core is hardened to 57-58 Rc. Blade locks in the open position utilizing a liner-style lock. The liners are stainless steel. Each measures 4-3/8" closed and weighs 2.9 oz. Made in Japan.
