In 2010 Ka-Bar® introduced a line of knives aimed at extreme users such as hog hunters, adventure trekkers and anyone else looking for that over the top knife. These knives were based on designs by Steve Johnson, Field Editor for Boar Hunter Magazine and part-time knife designer. The Paranatang is the newest addition to the KA-BAR/Johnson Adventure knives. This is the ideal knife for a field companion.

This parang style knife is a hard working knife no camper or adventure trekker should be without. The modified parang style blade measures 14-1/8" and is 3/16" thick, the steel is 1095 Cro-Van stainless steel with a hardness of 56-58 Rc. and a black epoxy powder coating. The multi-position handle is textured with Ka-Bar's proprietary Adventuregrip™, for control in tasks as delicate as field dressing. The handles are a rich brown glass filled nylon. This knife includes a brown MOLLE cordura sheath with black trim. Measures 19-5/8" overall and weighs 1 lb 4.9 oz oz. Made in the U.S.A., sheath made in Taiwan. Suggested retail is $98.95.

Soon after its introduction in the mid-1920's, the KA-BAR trademark became widely known and respected. There have been many versions of how the KA-BAR name came to be, but all evidence points to a letter received from a fur trapper. This particular fur trapper's testimonial turned out to be the most significant ever received by the company.

He wrote, in very rough English, that his gun had jammed and that he had therefore relied on his knife to kill a wounded bear that was attacking him. In thanking the company for their quality product the trapper described using his knife to kill the bear. All that was legible of his scrawled writing was "k a bar". The company was so honored by this testimonial that they adopted this phrase and used it as their trademark, KA-BAR.

KA-BAR is best known for their military production knives. They were chosen by the U.S. Marine Corp. as the primary knife producer for World War II. They also have traditional pocket knives, as well as many options for law enforcement.
