In 2010 Ka-Bar® introduced a line of knives aimed at extreme users such as hog hunters, adventure trekkers and anyone else looking for that over the top knife. These knives were based on designs by Steve Johnson, Field Editor for Boar Hunter Magazine and part-time knife designer. The Wharnstalker is a new addition to the KA-BAR/Johnson Adventure knives for 2014. This is the ideal knife for a field companion.

The Wharnstalker is a hard working knife that no hunter should be without. The modified Wharncliffe style of blade measures 4", the steel is 440A stainless steel with a hardness of 55-58 Rc. The multi-position handle is textured with Ka-Bar's proprietary Adventuregrip™, for control in tasks as delicate as field dressing. The handles are a rich orange glass filled nylon.

This knife includes an innovative sheath system with belt loops at two different belt carry heights, multiple MOLLE attachment points and a stuff sack on the front for carrying light sticks, fishing gear, matches, or other small necessities. Measures 8" overall and weighs about 4.1 oz. Made in the U.S.A. Suggested retail is $61.06.

Soon after its introduction in the mid-1920's, the KA-BAR trademark became widely known and respected. There have been many versions of how the KA-BAR name came to be, but all evidence points to a letter received from a fur trapper. This particular fur trapper's testimonial turned out to be the most significant ever received by the company.

He wrote, in very rough English, that his gun had jammed and that he had therefore relied on his knife to kill a wounded bear that was attacking him. In thanking the company for their quality product the trapper described using his knife to kill the bear. All that was legible of his scrawled writing was "k a bar". The company was so honored by this testimonial that they adopted this phrase and used it as their trademark, KA-BAR.

KA-BAR is best known for their military production knives. They were chosen by the U.S. Marine Corp. as the primary knife producer for World War II. They also have traditional pocket knives, as well as many options for law enforcement.
