Forty years ago, I was shown the finest Khukuri I have ever seen. It had a handle of rhinoceros horn and a fuller that gave it the best balance I had ever seen in such a knife.

At the 2017 Blade Show, I was shown khukuris made in Nepal that were ground with true fullers like I had seen so many years ago. The individual who is our source worked on this design for seven years, traveling to Nepal to talk with the elders about what the Gurkha were using 100 years ago. From the descriptions, a design was developed reminisent of khukuris made famous by the Gurkhas of Old. They are hand ground and finished in Nepal to those ancient standards. They are not built for the tourist trade.

The 12" blade is hand forged 5160 carbon steel sourced from used leaf springs, at about 58 Rc. The North Indian Rosewood handles are traditional in both shape and material and are fastened to the tang with copper rivets. There are two smaller knives/tools stored in pockets in the sheath. This is also traditional. One is a small knife and the other is a steel to be used in the field to sharpen the blades.

Because of the unique blade shape, it is important that you remember to press the back of the blade aginst the back of the sheath when drawing or returning the blade from or to the sheath to keep a sharp edge and not cut the sheath. Measures 16-7⁄8" overall. Knife weighs 10.4 oz. In the sheath with the two small tools, weighs 1 lb. 2.3 oz.

This knife in the hands of the Gurkhas in World War One spread terror through the German trenches whenever they appeared, at least these are the stories I have heard since I was a boy. Handmade in Nepal.

Knives by Hand

They pride themselves in being called Knives by Hand and they are called that for good reason.  All Knives are brought into existence with brute force. We like to think of it not as work, but our daily exercise that happens to put food on the table.  We currently have two streams of production at the moment. Me and a few families in Nepal.

Knives are more of a rugged type built for use.  Knives are designed for actual use and made to be durable and to be used and not in a display case.  Dedicated to Knives that are made from the old ways using a forge and hammer.  All knives are made out of High Carbon steel.   Knives are to be rugged and functional over “pretty”.
