A dagger is specifically designed for piercing with the point. Often Daggers are double-edged - both sides of the blade are sharpened (but not always). Daggers are generally considered a tactical blade, used in the mililtary and for self defense. Daggers often have a guard or some other way to prevent the users hand from sliding up onto the blade when piercing a target.
