A.G. Russell Shopmade Gold Field Bowie With Desert Ironwood Handle Scales
Item #: SMR-791DI
$245.00
About a year before he passed, A.G. reduced the size of the A.G. Russell California Bowie to a much smaller version that he called the Gold Field Bowie. His intent was to create a knife that was unobtrusive and would ride comfortably on the belt to be convenient for everyday use.
This version of a Bowie is based on the English-style Bowie knives D.E. (Ed) Henry made in the beginning of the 1960s. Ed Henry was the maker of the finest handmade “English” style Bowies. He made knives at a time when there was no computer driven machinery to cut or grind - all the work was done by hand. No one surpassed the quality of his work. His guards were so well fitted you could not tell if the knives were machined in one piece or if you were looking at the world's finest solder job. Utilizing modern processes, we have worked to accomplish that same fit with ours.
The 5-3⁄4" blade is 154-CM at 59-61 Rc. With current technology, we were able to fit the stainless steel guard as well as the ones on Ed's knives. You cannot tell where the blade ends and guard begins. The handle scales are Desert Ironwood from the Sonoran Desert in southern Arizona and a bit in the northern part of Mexico. The wood is harvested from fallen trees. We carefully select the slabs from the stock A.G. accummulated for years, looking for that with the most interesting grain and burl. Measures 9-1⁄4" from tip to butt. Weighs 4.5 oz. The knife is produced in our shop in Rogers, Arkansas. Includes a handcrafted brown leather sheath.
