The word Acies means a sharp pointed object and was the name A.G. chose for the A.G. Russell Titanium Frame-Lock he designed in 2009 and we began selling in January 2010. To design the knife, he collected the finest frame-locks in the market place, those of Chris Reeve, H. P. Klotzli, and Bob Dozier. He and Phil Gibbs tore them down and studied the design and engineering that made those knives stand so high above other frame-lock knives on the market.

They used what A.G. considered the best features from each of those makers' knives, then he added some of his own to create the best functioning frame-lock folder available at any price. We had the opportunity to have the first, and a second smaller version, made in the United States using Japanese made ZDP-189 for the blade, but no longer have that opportunity. The last time the Acies was in one of our catalogs was January 2012. The last time the Acies2 was in one was June 2016.
We have moved the production to the finest builder of folding knives in Taiwan for the newest version and chose American CPM-S30V for the blade steel.

The handle frame is Ti6Al4V titanium with a hardened steel insert at the end of the titanium locking arm where it engages the blade. This insert ensures that the arm does not wear and the lock will hold under long and heavy use. The insert also acts as a "stabilizer", to avoid over-push of the locking arm.

The modified 1⁄8" thick drop-point blade of CPM-S30V at 59-61 Rc. measures a full 3-5⁄8" long and 1-1⁄8" wide and fills the Titanium handle with more blade to handle than you will find in knives designed by others. The deep pocket clip allows the knife to ride completely submerged in the pocket. We ship with the clip in a tip down carry position but you can easily change it to tip up. Measures 4-1⁄2" closed. Weighs 4.0 oz.

Like every A. G. Russell™ knife, your satisfaction is absolutely guaranteed! If it is not the BEST of its type you have ever handled, please return it and tell us what it is about the knife you do not like.

A.G. Russell Knives

From the age of nine I made homemade knives until I was about twenty-four when I began to make handmade knives, crude but no longer made at home. A few years later, I had met and learned from makers like R.W. Loveless and R. L. Dozier. I made knives until the mid 1970s. I don’t make handmade knives anymore, as my hands aren’t what they used to be. However, I do have very talented makers in the United States and Japan who make knives that I am proud to put my name on. I design pocketknives, one hand knives, lockbacks, and fixed blade knives and have them made to our standards. ~A.G. Russell III

A.G. Russell has been in the knives and whetstones business for over 50 years. A.G. Russell knives are well known for their quality. A.G. Russell knives tend to be more traditional in style and look, with modern advances in material and design to create excellent knives.
