John Ek began a production process of making knives in 1941 in Hamden, CT. Shortly thereafter, he was producing knives for the troops in all branches of the service. In 1949, he moved the company to Miami, Florida where he produced knives for soldiers in Korea and Vietnam. The company continued producing knives until Blackjack Knives bought them in 1993. In May 2014, Ka-Bar announced they would acquire the Ek brand and would again bring these knives to market.

The Ek Commando knives, as John referred to them, were designed for close quarters and were quickly adopted by the U.S. Marine Raiders, U.S. Army Rangers, First Special Service Force and Office of Strategic Services Operational Groups. This Presentation Grade Commando has a 6-1/2" double-edge spear point blade of satin finished 440C stainless at 55-58 Rc. It is etched with a copy of John Ek's signature as well as the Commando Knife Co. Logo. The lacquered walnut handle scales contrast very nicely with the copper-coated stainless steel hilt and X-head fasteners. Ships with a brown leather sheath. Measures 12-1/2" overall. Weighs 8.7 oz. Made completely in the U.S.A. Suggested retail is $351.64.

KA-BAR

Soon after its introduction in the mid-1920's, the KA-BAR trademark became widely known and respected. There have been many versions of how the KA-BAR name came to be, but all evidence points to a letter received from a fur trapper. This particular fur trapper's testimonial turned out to be the most significant ever received by the company.

He wrote, in very rough English, that his gun had jammed and that he had therefore relied on his knife to kill a wounded bear that was attacking him. In thanking the company for their quality product the trapper described using his knife to kill the bear. All that was legible of his scrawled writing was "k a bar". The company was so honored by this testimonial that they adopted this phrase and used it as their trademark, KA-BAR.

KA-BAR is best known for their military production knives. They were chosen by the U.S. Marine Corp. as the primary knife producer for World War II. They also have traditional pocket knives, as well as many options for law enforcement.

The Buck Nighthawk Hunter is rare and a great find, Thanks. The EK Presentation knife is beautiful a great addition to my collection. Thanks Again. Rating: 10/10 John F. DEL RIO, TX
