Maple Burl Handle Scales
Larry Page has made these two models with Desert Ironwood for us for years. This is a very traditional model and Desert Ironwood is a popular handle material, but it seemed that our customers were looking for a change. At the Blade show this past June, we met with Larry to choose a new handle material. Larry immediately ordered handle material that we chose (right there at the show, I think) and delivered these knives just a few weeks ago.
A burl is a growth on the trunk of a tree in which the grain has grown in a deformed manner. Often sought after by wood artists, burls are highly prized for their beauty and rarity. You may see it used in musical instruments, jewlery boxes and knife handles. The color in these handle scales range from dark golden brown to slightly orange. Your Larry Page knife will include a brown leather sheath, which he makes himself and form fits to each individual knife. Each knife and sheath will bear matching serial numbers to assure that you will always get your knife back in the correct sheath.
Both models are mirror polished CPM-154 stainless at about 59 Rc. with strongly tapered tangs. The gold maple burl handle scales are separated from the tang by red fiber liners. The single hilt and handle screws are stainless steel. Handmade in the U.S.A.

Larry Page
Larry Page began making knives in 1983. He has always been a hunter and has strong opinions about how a knife should be designed to work properly in the field. It should always fit the hand in use to prevent slippage when dressing game to avoid serious injury. His favorite blade style is a drop point since it keeps the blade away from the gut or muscle during skinning.
