An A.G. Russell Exclusive

I have always been intrigued with Guinea Fowl. When I was a child, we had a flock on our farm in Missouri. Their squawking served a practical purpose, warning that something, or someone, was getting close to the house. But it was the plumage that I most admired.

A few years ago, we introduced three knives from Viper of Maniago, Italy that had feathers embedded in a clear resin for handle scales. Those knives are beautiful and have been very popular, but I kept thinking about those guinea feathers. At the 2019 Blade Show, we sat down with Viper and arranged production of the Drop with Guinea feathers for A.G. Russell.

For their Feather Collection, Viper uses a material that is exclusive to them. Each feather is placed by hand in a thick layer of transparent acrylic resin with a white background and the feather is embedded in solid resin. Once cured, the outside surface is finely polished to give maximum transparency and to bring out the beauty of each feather. Each knife will be one of a kind because each feather will be very different.

The Viper Drop has a 1-7⁄8" drop point blade of Sandvik 12C27 stainless at 57-59 Rc. with a fine satin finish. The blade is held securely in the open position with a liner style lock of AISI 301 hardened steel. Measures 3" closed. Weighs 2.6 oz. Includes a simple leather pouch to protect against scratches. Made in Maniago, Italy.
