Presentation Mother-of-Pearl Handle Scales
Robert Young is a Northwest Arkansas knifemaker, but began his knifemaking skills in Southern California. He says that he started making knives as a youngster because of A.G. Russell. The reason he gives credit to A.G. is because he really liked A.G.s Morseth Ozark Hunter, but his parents thought the $45 price tag was too high. So, he decided to forge his own.
Robert told me that at about 16 years old he had the opportunity to walk into Bob Loveless' shop. Bob spent a little time with him, showing him about making knives and telling him to call or come over any time he had questions. Robert said he visited Bob another half dozen times. He credits Loveless with teaching him to solder guards, taper tangs and other bits of information to make knifemaking simpler and easier.
Robert has been consigning some of his knives through The Cutting Edge® and recently agreed that he would make Loveless Style City Knives with the presentation grade Mother-of-Pearl scales A.G. bought years ago. Those pieces were the perfect fit for this small City Knife.
The 2-5/8" blade is RWL-34 at 62 Rc. The bolster is engravable 416 stainless. Five stainless pins hold the pearl to the full tapered tang. A thin black fiber liner separates the pearl from the tang. The entire knife is mirror polished. Measures 6-1/4" overall. Weighs 2.9 oz. Includes a brown leather pocket sheath handmade by the maker.
