The A.G. Russell Premium Scout Knife is kind of unique in the knife world today. First, it is a traditional pattern and few companies make these traditional knives today. But second is the fact that it is really difficult to make. Since the Camillus Cutlery factory closed in 2006, it is very difficult to find anyone any place in the world who is even capable of making it.

In 2023, we located a factory in China that has made a very fine version. We were skeptical and did lots of testing before we felt comfortable ordering the quantities we needed to order. When orders were delivered earlier this year, we were pleased.

Those that we offered in 2004 through early 2009 were made for us by Camillus. These are the same design. We even used the same acorn shield. The major differences are the country of origin and the blade steel. The 2-5⁄8" satin finish Spearpoint main blade is VG10 at 59-61 Rc. The can opener, screwdriver/cap lifter and the leather punch are all 5Cr15MoV at 55-57 Rc., a steel appropriate to the function of the tool. The available handle scales are Stag and Red Saw-Cut Bone. The bolsters are nickel silver and the liners are brass. The bail will accommodate a lanyard. Measures 3-3/4" closed. Weighs between 3.5 and 3.7 oz. depending on the handle material. Made in China.

A.G. Russell Knives

From the age of nine I made homemade knives until I was about twenty-four when I began to make handmade knives, crude but no longer made at home. A few years later, I had met and learned from makers like R.W. Loveless and R. L. Dozier. I made knives until the mid 1970s. I don’t make handmade knives anymore, as my hands aren’t what they used to be. However, I do have very talented makers in the United States and Japan who make knives that I am proud to put my name on. I design pocketknives, one hand knives, lockbacks, and fixed blade knives and have them made to our standards. ~A.G. Russell III
