We introduced the A.G. Russell™ Shopmade® California Bowie in February 2010 with Desert Ironwood scales. At that time we could not find India Stag large enough for these large handle scales. In 2011, we located 25 pair of high enough quality, and large enough for this large bowie. In inventoring all the stag we own, we have found a couple of boxes with pairs that are large enough. We have hand picked the best quality from one of those boxes and found enough to make another 40. Because of the size and premium quality, this knife carries a premium price. As we promised in 2011, we will continue to search for more high quality stag, but have no idea what we may find.
The 8-1⁄2" classic Bowie blade is 154CM heat-treated to 59-61 Rc. It measures 1-1⁄4" at its widest point and 3⁄16" thick. The hilt, of 410 stainless, is precisely fitted to the tang; reminiscent of the bowies made by D. E. Henry in the 1970s. The knife measures 13-1⁄4" overall. Weighs 10.6 oz. The sheath is our own design and is made of first class leather. We are proud of this fine example of an American Bowie Knife made completely in the U.S.A. Handmade in our own shop here in Rogers, Arkansas and marked "A.G. Russell Shopmade®".
