The UpTern™ by Spyderco® is an upgraded version of the Tern™ a Byrd model that was first introduced in 2012. Designed by Sal Glesser, the Tern was the first non-locking byrd model. Inspired by that orginal model, Spyderco has upgraded the folder to a lockback.  Part of their Value Folder family, it features a full-flat-ground 8Cr13MoV stainless steel blade, a textured forefinger choil and thumb ramp, a satin-finished stainless steel handle, a sturdy back lock mechanism, and a fully configurable four-position pocket clip.

Available with a plain edge, the symmetrical design and fully accessible Trademark Round Hole™ make every aspect of its carry, deployment, and operation completely ambidextrous. The perfect canvas for engraving and other aftermarket embellishment, the UpTern combines affordability with classic old-school Spyderco craftsmanship.

The drop point blade is made of 8Cr13MoV stainless steel with a hardness of 57-59 Rc. The blade measures 2-7/8" and the closed length is 3-3/4". Lockback. The stainless steel handle holds a 4-position pocket clip. Weighs 3.5 oz. Made in China. Suggested Retail $77.00.

Spyderco

In 1981, Spyderco ventured into the world of knife making by introducing their first folding knife, the C01 Worker. This knife was the first in the industry to feature a round hole in the blade design that allowed for fast, one-hand opening, now the company’s trademark, and the first to feature a pocket clip. The trademarked round hole is the most recognizable feature of a Spyderco knife and it facilitates the easy opening and closing of these knives with one hand while also offering convenient access and maximum control while opening as well as accommodating large, small or gloved hands.

Spyderco’s recognizable appearance is a result of designing ergonomically functional tools rather than applying lipstick and nylons to a pocketknife. Spyderco’s knives may look unusual, but they will never be called unusable or undependable. When you purchase a Spyderco knife, you are buying a high quality reliable cutting tool that was designed and manufactured for peak performance and ergonomic comfort.
